Barranquilla / Santa Marta / The Lost City
Most hotels in Cartagena can arrange for a shuttle to pick you at your hotel and take you directly to Santa Marta or Barranquilla. The trip from Cartagena to Barranquilla is approximately 2 hours with Santa Marta another 2 hours passed that. The shuttle the comes to your hotel should cost between $25 and $35 to Santa Marta. However if you decide to travel to the bus terminal (see map), you can make the trip for between $10-$20.
Other Colombian Destinations
For most other destinations in Colombia, you will need to go to leave Cartagena from the bus terminal located 6km NE of the city. Expreso Brasilia, CopeTran, Berlinas del Fonce, Rapido Ochoa, Bolivariano, Expreso Palmira, and CooMotor all offer bus service to and from Cartagena. It is customary to barter for the price of bus tickets and it is not uncommon to travel at a 20%-40% discount off the stated bus price if you're willing to put forth the effort.
