Bike Riding in Valledupar Colombia
The Bicycle Ride from Valledupar to Guacoche is fun, safe, and very pretty. Bikes are available to guests at the Provincia Hostel in Valledupar Colombia
The first stage of this ride along the river is typically pleasant without too much traffic. Sunday may be the best day, because the riverside is filled with Colombians and tourists swimming, relaxing with families, and selling food and drinks and few cars are on the road.
After you reach the bridge, cross over and you will soon pass( < 1500m) Club Campaste on your left. Turn right at your next opportunity. You will then have a 8-10km stretch of smooth, shaded road featuring beautiful views of farms and mountains. This segment is your best chance to see monkeys.
You will eventually reach the end of the paved road, and it will become rocky and gravel. This will be no problem if you are on a mountain bike. Continue if you choose into the small village of Guacoche. Past Guacoche but before you reach Guacochito, you feel encounter a number of talented artisans selling pots on the side of the road.
Round trip, the ride is roughly 25km all the way to Guacochito. If you make it all the way, treat yourself to a refreshing swim in the Guatapuri on your way back into town. You may be able to find bike parking areas, where kids will watch your bike and others for a small fee (600 COP).
